GAINESVILLE, Florida (Ticker) -- Loree Payne's jumper at the buzzer gave sixth-seeded Washington a 67-65 victory over No. 11 Old Dominion in the first round of the NCAA Tournament's West Region.

Payne took an inbounds pass with 0.7 seconds left and hit the winning shot, sending Washington (20-9) into a second-round matchup with host Florida, the third seed.

Old Dominion (21-9) trailed by as many as 10 points but tied it at 65-65 on Monique Coker's laup with 54 seconds left. The teams exchanged turnovers before Payne's game-winner.

Payne finished with 20 points and Giuliana Mendiola and Megan Franza added 12 apiece for the Huskies, who had a 29-27 halftime edge. They shot just 43 percent (28-of-65) but held the Lady Monarchs to 42 percent (25-of-60).

Myriah Spence scored 13 points and Hamchetou Maiga added 11 for Old Dominion, which entered the tournament on a six-game winning streak.
