RUSTON, Pennsylvania (Ticker) -- Kati Safaritova scored 23 points and made 10-of-16 shots as 11th seed Texas Christian won its debut game in the NCAA Tournament, 77-75, over No. 6 Penn State in the first round.

Safaritova led the Horned Frogs' offense, which shot 51 percent (30-of-59) from the floor and 40 percent (8-of-20) from 3-point range.

Tricia Payne scored 15 points while Jill Sutton and Tiffany Evans combined for 22 points off the bench for Texas Christian (24-8), which now faces a second-round matchup with Louisiana Tech on Monday night.

The Horned Frogs trailed, 75-74, with one minute to go, but Penn State committed two turnovers and misssed a shot in the final minute while TCU sank three free throws to seal the victory.

After shooting a miserable 32 percent (13-of-40) in the first half, the Lady Lions trailed by five points at halftime.

One year after making it to the Final Four, Penn State fell to 9-2 all-time in the first round.

The Lady Lions shot just 36 percent (27-of-74) overall, but made 10-of-24 3-pointer and held a 44-34 rebounding edge.

Maren Walseth had 21 points and 13 rebounds and Lisa Shepherd scored 20 points for Penn State (20-9). Shepherd drained 5-of-9 3-point shots while Walseth made 9-of-10 from the line.

Kelly Mazzante, the National co-Freshman of the Year, scored just nine points and 4-of-13 shooting in just 28 minutes.
