PISCATAWAY, New Jersey (Ticker) -- Jackie Stiles was held in check, but teammate Tara Mitchem exploded for a career-high 40 points as Southwestern Missouri State posted an 89-71 victory over Toledo in an NCAA Tournament West Region first-round game.

Stiles, who earlier this season became the all-time leading scorer in Division I history, was held to 13 points on 5-of-12 shooting.

Mitchem more than picked up the slack, making 13-of-20 shots from the field and hitting all 12 free throws. She also grabbed eight rebounds and handed out four assists.

Carly Deer added 21 points for fifth seed Southwest Misouri State (26-2), which will face host Rutgers in Monday's second round. Rutgers advanced with an 80-43 victory over Stephen F Austin.

The Lady Bears posted their first NCAA Tournament victory since 1995.

Kahli Carter scored 21 points and Malantha Herron added 20 for Toledo (25-6), the champions of the Mid-American Conference. The Rockets' rallied from a 25-point deficit in the MAC championship game.
