CHARLOTTE, North Carolina (Ticker) -- Coming off another surprising loss and a dismal first half, Duke got a boost from Alana Beard. Beard scored 23 points on 11-of-17 shooting and Iciss Tillis added 11 points and 14 rebounds as the 12th-ranked Blue Devils pulled away for a 64-39 rout of Charlotte. Duke (3-2) was beaten by South Carolina on Sunday in the final of its own tournament. The Blue Devils shot just 23.5 percent (8-of-34) in the first half and settled for an 18-14 lead at intermission. But Beard made 8-of-11 shots from the field over the final 20 minutes, when Duke outscored Charlotte, 46-25. Sheana Mosch chipped in 10 points for the Blue Devils, who shot 60 percent (21-of-35) in the second half to finish at 42 percent (29-of-69). Alicia Abernathy scored 16 points but was the only player in double figures for Charlotte (3-2), which shot under 26 percent (16-of-62) and committed 25 turnovers.
