RUSTON, Louisiana (Ticker) -- Freshman Erica Smith scored 19 points in just 26 minutes to lead five players in double figures as 11th-ranked Louisiana Tech rolled to a 78-54 victory over Arkansas State. Ayana Walker added 13 points and 13 rebounds and Amber Obaze had 11 points for Louisiana Tech (5-3), which led by as many as 30 in the second half. Takeisha Lewis chipped in 10 points for the Lady Techsters, who converted 24 turnovers into 19 points. Rae-Anne Smith scored 20 points and Chiquita Tucker had 14 for Arkansas State (5-7), which could not overcome 33 percent shooting (19-of-57). The Lady Indians made its first six shots from the field to start the game but went 6-of-25 the rest of the half and trailed at the break, 37-23. Arkansas State played its second game without junior Jolie McKeirnan, its leading rebounder and second-leading scorer who has a sprained ankle. |
