CINCINNATI (Ticker) -- Valerie King scored 19 of her team's first 21 points and finished with 28 in 32 minutes as No. 25 Cincinnati posted a 77-52 triumph over East Carolina in a Conference USA matchup. Debbie Merrill added 14 points and reserve Tamara Douglass made all four of her shots and scored 10 points for Cincinnati (12-2, 1-1 C-USA). The Bearcats led 21-10 midway through the opening half and the rout was on. The lead was 47-26 by halftime and Cincinnati never was threatened. King had a terrific shooting night, making 8-of-9 shots from the field, including all six of her 3-pointers. She was 6-of-6 from the line and added four steals. Cincinnati shot 64 percent (16-of-25) from the field in the opening half. East Carolina made 10-of-21 shots over the first 20 minutes but was unable to stay with the Bearcats. Ayana McWilliams led East Carolina (3-11, 1-1) with 12 points and Courtney Willis chipped in 10. Cincinnati converted 24 turnovers by East Carolina into 33 points. |
