BLOOMINGTON, Indiana (Ticker) -- The Barn Burner Trophy is staying put. Mary Jo Noon scored 18 points and Laura Meadows added 15 and 16 rebounds as 13th-ranked Purdue extended its winning streak over Indiana to four games with a 61-53 Big Ten Conference victory. The bitter intrastate rivals have played for the Barn Burner Trophy annually since 1994, but it has resided in West Lafayette each of the last four years. Noon and Meadows keyed a big effort by Purdue's frontcourt, which combined for 25 rebounds and 43 points on 14-of-28 shooting. Forward Shereka Wright was held in check with 10 points on 3-of-9 shooting. But guard Erika Valek helped pick up the slack with 13 points and eight boards as the Boilermakers (14-3, 5-2 Big Ten) held the Hoosiers (8-9, 2-4) to 33 percent (20-of-60) shooting. Neither team shot well in the first half, when Purdue came away with a 25-22 lead. The Boilermakers opened the second half with a 10-0 run and never looked back. Erin McGinnis had 17 points and eight rebounds and Jill Chapman added 14 points for Indiana. |
