CHAPEL HILL, North Carolina (Ticker) -- Fallon Stokes scored 23 points as Georgia Tech raced to an 18-point lead and stunned 17th-ranked North Carolina, 81-62, in an Atlantic Coast Conference matchup.

Stokes was 9-of-12 from the field, grabbed eight rebounds and sparked a big first half. She scored eight points in the opening 9:17, helping Georgia Tech (10-6, 4-3 ACC) build a 22-8 lead.

A layup by Nina Barlin extended it to 30-12 with 6:17 left before halftime and the Tar Heels got no closer than 12 points thereafter.

Sonja Mallory had 14 points and 13 rebounds and Milli Martinez and reserve Megan Isom each added 12 points for the Yellow Jackets. Barlin finished with eight points, eight rebounds and eight assists.

Leah Metcalf had 16 points to lead North Carolina (14-4, 4-2) but made 6-of-19 shots. The Tar Heels also got 12 points from Nikki Teasley and 14 rebounds and nine points from Chrystal Baptist but shot just 33 percent (27-of-81).

Georgia Tech had a whopping 60-35 rebounding advantage as it overcame 26 turnovers.
