MILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- Valerie King and K.B. Sharp scored 17 points apiece as 25th-ranked Cincinnati rolled to its 20th victory, 63-53 over Conference USA rival Marquette. King and Sharp, the starting backcourt for the Bearcats, combined to make just 7-of-24 shots, including 2-of-14 3-pointers, but were perfect in 18 attempts from the free-throw line. Cincinnati (20-4, 9-3 C-USA) shot 46 percent (18-of-50) in the first half en route to a 35-21 halftime cushion. The Bearcats made just 5-of-22 shots in the second half and the Golden Eagles closed within 42-37 with 10 minutes left. But Sharp collected four points and an assist as Cincinnati scored eight of the next nine points to pull away. Tammy Douglass scored 10 points and Debbie Merrill pulled down 13 rebounds for the Bearcats, who shot only 36 percent (18-of-50) but outscored the Golden Eagles, 23-8 at the line. Rashida Gales scored 12 points but was the only player in double figures for Marquette (14-10, 7-4), which shot 37 percent (22-of-59) and made 1-of-14 3-pointers. Rachel Klug, the leading scorer for the Golden Eagles, scored just eight points on 3-of-7 shooting and was held scoreless in the second half. |
