NORFOLK, Virginia (Ticker) -- Okiesha Howard scored 10 of her 12 points in the first half as No. 23 Old Dominion dominated from the start and remained unbeaten in Colonial Athletic Association play with a 72-40 rout of North Carolina-Wilmington. Lucienne Berthieu opened the game with four consecutive points and the Lady Monarchs never trailed. The game was tied, 4-4, before Old Dominion went on a 16-6 run to seize control. Hamchetou Maiga scored seven of her 13 points during the burst and Howard nailed a pair of 3-pointers to highlight a 12-3 spurt later in the half as the Lady Monarchs built a 34-20 cushion at the break. NC-Wilmington got no closer in the second half and Old Dominion (18-5, 14-0 CAA) had its largest lead, 72-36, after a free throw by Myriah Spence with 85 seconds left. Berthieu finished with 14 points and Monique Coker added nine and 11 rebounds. Maiga collected 12 rebounds as the Lady Monarchs held a 46-31 advantage on the boards. Vickey Harper and Jennifer Kapper scored 10 points apiece to lead NC-Wilmington (12-11, 6-8), which shot only 28 percent (14-of-51) and was 2-of-13 from 3-point range. |
