KANSAS CITY, Missouri (Ticker) -- Sheila Lambert had a season-high 30 points, seven rebounds and seven assists as seventh-ranked Baylor posted a 75-60 victory over No. 17 Texas Tech in the Big 12 Conference tournament quarterfinals. Lambert made 13-of-24 shots and also recorded five steals for the Lady Bears, who played their first tournament game after receiving a first-round bye for the first time in school history. Baylor (25-4) had a 41-33 halftime lead, but Texas Tech opened the second half on a 15-5 run. The Lady Raiders took their only lead of the final 35 minutes at 49-48 on a jumper by Jia Perkins with 14:23 remaining. But the Lady Bears responded with a 19-3 burst to seize control for good. Lambert and Danielle Crockrom each scored six points during the decisive spurt, which gave Baylor a 67-52 cushion with 6:41 to go. The Lady Raiders never got closer than 11 points thereafter and the Lady Bears had their largest lead, 75-58, after a basket by Jessika Stratton with 2:06 left. Stratton finished with 12 points and Steffanie Blackmon scored nine off the bench for Baylor, which has won seven straight games and 12 of its last 13. The Lady Bears face No. 6 seed Iowa State in Thursday's semifinals. Jolee Ayers had 18 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks for Texas Tech (18-11), which shot just 36 percent (23-of-64) and was outscored, 42-20 in the paint. Perkins scored 14 points and reserve Natalie Ritchie chipped in 13 for the Lady Raiders. |
