NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament Recap (Florida A&M-Clemson)

CLEMSON, South Carolina (Ticker) -- Natasha Anderson scored 17 of her 24 points in the first half as second-seeded Clemson routed Florida A&M, 76-45, in the first round of the Mideast Region of the NCAA Women's Tournament.

The Tigers (25-5) moved into the second round on their home floor, where they will face seventh-seeded Illinois on Sunday. The 31-point margin was the biggest for Clemson in 11 NCAA Tournament victories.

Anderson tied a season high as she topped the 1,000-point mark for her career. She contributed 12 points, including 10 straight, to help Clemson jump to a 14-6 lead just 6 1/2 minutes into the game.

The Tigers took control with a 15-0 spurt, opening a commanding 29-8 lead with 7:14 remaining. Anderson and Nikki Blasingame had four points apiece during the spree. Phaedra Mashburn stopped the run with two free throws.

Clemson led 39-13 at halftime, holding the Rattlettes (18-12) to 19 percent shooting (5-of-26) from the field.

Blassingame and Itoro Umoh added eight points apiece as 12 of the 13 Clemson players who saw action, scored.

Teresa Jenkins paced Florida A&M with 15 points and Crystal Worlds added eight. But the Rattlettes were unable to overcome 25 turnovers.
