NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament Recap (Central Florida-Louisiana Tech)

Posted: Sat March 13, 1999 at 2:08 a.m EST

RUSTON, Louisiana (Ticker) -- Betty Lennox came off the bench and led five players in double figures with 15 points as top seed Louisiana Tech coasted to a 90-48 rout of Central Florida in a first-round West Region contest in the NCAA Women's Tournament.

The Lady Techsters (27-2) have reeled off 19 straight victories since a 71-65 setback at Purdue on December 19 and are hoping to return to the NCAA title game for the second straight season.

Louisiana Tech will play eighth-seeded Penn State in Sunday's second round. Penn State defeated Virginia tonight, 82-69.

Monica Maxwell scored 12 points, Amanda Wilson had 11 and Shaka Massey and LaQuan Stallworth added 10 apiece for Louisiana Tech, which held Central Florida to a measly 4-of-23 performance from the field in the first half and built a commanding 35-20 lead at the break.

Chariya Davis scored 22 points and LaToya Graham added 11 for the Golden Knights (20-10), who also suffered a 98-41 defeat at the hands of the Lady Techsters in the first round of the 1996 Tournament. That was Central Florida's only previous NCAA appearance and it also came as a 16th seed.

Takeisha Lewis grabbed 10 rebounds for the Lady Techsters, who held a 61-34 advantage on the boards and shot 41 percent (34-of-83).

The Golden Knights shot 26 percent (13-of-51).
