The Monarchs, who extended their winning streak to 16 games, will face 10th-seeded Maine in a second-round encounter on Sunday afternoon at ODU Fieldhouse. Berthieu finished the opening 20 minutes with 10 points as the Monarchs led 34-25. Tennessee Tech (21-9) climbed within eight points early in the second half, but Old Dominion put the contest away with a 13-1 run over a 6:04 stretch. Eblin scored eight points, including a pair of 3-pointers, for a 52-32 lead with 10:37 remaining. "I just felt very comfortable out there," Eblin said. "It felt good to get back in the swing aghain. I don't know why, but I knew I was going to finally start hitting." The Monarchs shot 50 percent (30-of-60) overall, including 56 percent (15-of-27) in the second half, as they improved to 12-1 at home this season. Tennessee Tech was led by Janet Holt with eight points, but on only 4-of-12 shooting. The Golden Eagles shot 36 percent (18-of-50) from the floor as their seven-game winning streak was snapped. "I was having fun there for a while," Tennessee Tech coach Bill Worrell said. "Then it got like a job you don't want to go to. They took advantage of us and just jumped on us. We made a lot of bad decisions." Old Dominion leads the all-time series, 2-1, including a victory in the 1993 NCAA Tournament.© 2000 Sportsticker Enterprises, LP
