NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament Recap (Dartmouth-Rutgers)

PISCATAWAY, New Jersey (Ticker) -- Tammy Sutton-Brown led four players in double figures with 18 points to lead third-seeded Rutgers to a 84-70 win over Dartmouth in the first round of the Midwest Region in the NCAA Women's Tournament.

The Scarlet Knights (27-5) won their fourth straight NCAA Tournament game at home. They will face Arizona in the second round on Sunday.

Rutgers began the game on a 12-0 run in the first 4:02 as Dartmouth missed six straight shots and committed two turnovers. Shawnetta Stewart keyed the spurt with five points, while Sutton-Brown added four. Gyvonne Pinkston capped the run with a 3-pointer.

Rutgers, which built a 49-29 halftime bulge, shot 54 percent (18-of-34) from the field in the first 20 minutes, while holding Dartmouth to 35 percent (10-of-28).

The Scarlet Knights padded their lead in the second half to as many as 25 points before Dartmouth made a late run. Stewart added 15 points and Linda Miles scored 13, all in the second half.

Courtney Banghart paced the Big Green (19-9) with 19 points with six of her field goals coming from 3-point range. Erin Rewalt added 12 points.
