NCAA Women's Tournament Recap (Evansville-LSU)

BATON ROUGE, Louisiana (Ticker) -- DeTrina White scored 24 points on 10-of-14 shooting as fourth-seeded Louisiana State defeated 13th-seeded Evansville, 78-69, in the first round of the West Region of the NCAA Women's Tournament.

White also grabbed 11 rebounds as LSU (21-7) improved to 6-0 in NCAA Tournament games at the Maravich Assembly Center and recorded its 35th consecutive home win against non-conference opponents.

The Tigers improved to 14-1 when scoring at least 70 points and will face Notre Dame in the second round on Monday.

Marie Ferdinand had 16 points and April Brown added 13 for the Tigers, who shot 53 percent (31-of-58) from the field and forced 22 turnovers.

Shyla McKibbon had 22 points and 12 rebounds for Evansville (19-11), which earned its first NCAA Tournament appearance in school history by winning the Missouri Valley Conference tournament.

Shinko Ono scored 13 points and Latasha Austin added 12 for the Purple Aces, who trailed 36-35 at the intermission.

Evansville was 8-of-18 from 3-point range, compared to just 1-of-5 for LSU. But the Tigers increased their lead by shooting 57 percent (16-of-28) in the second half.
