NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament Recap (Stephen Austin-Texas Tech)
Posted: Sun March 14, 1999 at 12:32 a.m EST LUBBOCK, Texas (Ticker) -- Angie Braziel scored 21 points to lead four players in double figures as second seed Texas Tech cruised to an 80-54 win over Stephen F. Austin in the first round of the Midwest Region of the NCAA Women's Tournament. Julie Lake added 15 points, Keitha Dickerson netted 13 and Rene Hanebutt had 10, leading Texas Tech (29-3) to its 10th straight win. The Lady Raiders will play 10th seed North Carolina State at home in Monday's second round. Texas Tech gained control of the contest in the first half and led, 36-19, at halftime. The Lady Raiders shot 54 percent (15-of-28) from the floor and held Stephen F. Autsin to 32 percent (9-of-28) from the field. Texas Tech finished the contest connecting on 56 percent (32-of-57) of its shots and improved to 13-0 this season at Lubbock Municipal Coliseum. The Lady Raiders' starting frontcourt held a 44-26 advantage. Stephen F. Austin's 12th straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament was a short one, despite 14 points and eight rebounds from Anitra Davis.
