AMES, Iowa (Ticker) -- Angie Welle scored 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, leading fourth seed Iowa State to an 85-70 victory over Oregon in a second-round Mideast Region battle of the NCAA Women's Tournament.

Iowa State (24-7) advanced to the regional semifinals for the first time. It will play top-seeded Connecticut on Saturday in Cincinnati.

Both teams were red-hot in the first half as Iowa State built a 48-38 lead. The Cyclones shot 57 percent (20-of-35) from the floor while Oregon hit 54 percent (14-of-26).

Iowa State's Desiree Francis came off the bench to score 13 points in the first half and finished the game with 19. Stacy Frese and Megan Taylor added 12 points apiece for the Cyclones in a game witnessed by 11,719, a Hilton Coliseum record for women's basketball. Iowa State is 15-1 at home this season.

Oregon (25-6) was denied what would have been a school-record 26th win, losing two of its last four. Jenny Mowe scored 20 points and Shaquala Williams added 16 for the Ducks.

Iowa State outrebounded Oregon, 38-24, and shot 21-of-29 from the line. The Ducks made 11-of-14 free throws.
