CELEBRATING Above all, Bird was born to win, and the Celtics did plenty of that during his career. In his 13 seasons, Boston failed to win more than 50 games just once—the 1988-89 campaign in which he played only six games because of injury. In the other 12 years, the Celtics averaged a remarkable 59 wins. And let's not forget the three NBA titles and two other trips to the Finals.
