YOU BE THE GM, PART TWO

Posted: Wed June 24, 1998

We've received hundreds of additional draft picks from CNN/SI.com users playing the role of GM, selecting from any current NBA player to serve as their new team's franchise player.

Here are more of your responses:

No question: Michael Jordan. You have to take the best player in the history of the game if he's available. Every free agent in the NBA is going to want to sign with you after the end of your first season—a dynasty in the making.
Matt Parks, Durham, N.C.

Bulls forward Toni Kukoc. He has tasted success already, and his showing in this year's finals shows that he is a capable of carrying a team offensively when he has the green light.
Keith Kosaki, Honolulu

Point guard Stephon Marbury from the T-Wolves. He's got it all.
Nirav Shah, Piscataway, N.J.

Spurs center Tim Duncan is hands down the most valuable player in the NBA. If I am a GM in the league today I have to regretfully pass on future Hall of Fame inductees Jordan, Malone, Stockton, Pippen, Barkley and Olajuwon because of their proximity to retirement.
Brooke Smith, Salt Lake City

Swingman Michael Finley of the Dallas Mavericks. Finley is the total package. He is a slasher who can also hit the open trey.
Eric Durkee, Reedsburg, Wis.

Suns forward Antonio McDyess. He is probably the most athletic player the NBA has seen in a long time and with his improvement this season after his move to Phoenix, his potential is unlimited.
Kris Pilles, Southold, N.Y.

Wizards shooting guard Mitch Richmond. He is a consistent scorer, but was just stuck on a bad team his whole career.
Aaron Jang, Chico, Calif.

Suns point guard Jason Kidd, because he's the perfect player who makes all the plays and can make the players on your team even better.
Daniel Piedade, Kearny, N.J.

Jazz point guard John Stockton. I wouldn't win many games but I would have a player that could show the younger players what it means to compete.
Sam Giles

You need a versatile veteran with knowledge of the game, who doesn't cost much. I would choose Sonics forward Detlef Schrempf, because he clearly demonstrates the above characteristics.
Alex Garnett, Colville, Wash.

My marquee player would be Lakers center Shaquille O'Neal. Having a talented big man in the middle, who is adding to his repertoire of moves with every season, is an invaluable asset.
Marisa Tuchinsky, Great Neck, N.Y.

Celtics shooting guard Ron Mercer, simply because of his untapped potential for playing the great Dr. Naismith's game.
Justin Crump, Hawley, Pa.

Sixers guard Allen Iverson. He's an exciting player that the fans will come out to see, and he can dominate the game on his own.
Doug Wruck, Milwaukee, Wis.

Wizards point guard God Shammgod because every team needs a God on their side.
Rob Trainor, Saskatoon, Sask.
