Patrick Ewing President, National Basketball Players
Association Center, New York Knicks
In his 13th year in the NBA and voted as one of the Top 50 players in NBA
history, Patrick
Ewing is the elected president of the players' union.
Ewing, 35, took over for Knicks forward Buck Williams
in September of 1997 as the NBPA president. The 12-time All-Star led a
group of players in an attempt to decertify the union, but now is seen as
one of the union's strongest voices.
Ewing, who makes $20.5 million a year, is dead-set against giving up the
"Bird exemption" during the upcoming negotiations. The rule allows teams to
sign their best players without concern for the salary cap.
