Duke makes NBA Draft history with 4 first-round picks, led by No. 1 Brand
The 1999 NBA Draft represented a night of firsts for Duke. Elton Brand became the first Blue Devil ever picked No. 1 when the Chicago Bulls selected the star power forward. Later, the selections of Trajan Langdon (No. 11), Corey Maggette (No. 13) and William Avery (No. 14) made the Blue Devils the first team ever to have four players taken in the first round. SI’s Marty Burns, in his pick-by-pick analysis, says don’t be surprised to see one or all four of these Dukesters involved in the myriad of trades he mentions.
