Van Gundy's job was believed to be in jeopardy when the Knicks almost failed to make the playoffs, but they went on a roll became the first eighth-seeded team to advance past the first round. They trail the San Antonio Spurs 3-1 in the NBA Finals, with Game 5 tonight.

Van Gundy said he has no desire to coach elsewhere, but that he and Checketts will wait until after the finals to discuss the future.

"I have never wanted to be someplace else," he was quoted as telling the New York Post.

"We just have to make sure it's the right thing for everybody," Van Gundy said. "I'm sure it is."
