Work in Sports
As the coaching adage goes, you can't coach size. Thus, Sheppard, a very huge human being, has a chance to play in the NBA. After kicking around at LSU, where he was apparently underutilized despite the Tigers' glaring need for post players, Sheppard found a home at Pepperdine, where another SEC refugee, former Vanderbilt coach Jan van Breda Kolff, resurfaced. Sheppard did some good big-man type stuff for van Breda Kolff, scoring when he needed to (9.1 per game, .579 shooting), grabbing his share of rebounds (6.7 per game) and turning back the occasional shot (13 blocks). Sheppard is a physical presence who's a good rebounder on either end of the floor. He can alter a shot if not return it straight to sender. And he's big. Coaches love big.
