On the bright side Sixers' Snow hopes to play Friday despite fracturePosted: Thursday April 27, 2000 01:58 AM
PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Sixers guard Eric Snow said Wednesday he hopes to be on the court Friday when the team plays Charlotte in Game 3 of their playoff series. Snow showed up for practice Wednesday with a specially fitted boot on his right ankle. He sustained a chip fracture during last Saturday's Game 1 win in Charlotte and aggravated the injury in Game 2 despite scoring 19 points and earning 13 assists in the team's 108-98 overtime loss to the Hornets. "I'm upset about it right now. I'm still optimistic I'll be able to play on Friday," Snow said. "I got hurt on a play right in front of the bench. David Wesley stepped on my foot. As he stepped on my foot, I tried to pull away from him." "I've been in the boot the last two days. I haven't tried to run on it. I couldn't play tonight." Coach Larry Brown said he knows Snow wants to get back in the game quickly, but he doesn't want to see any more harm done to the ankle. "We asked the doctor if he could do further damage on his ankle if he played, and he said no. I've seen guys immobilized with this injury before and then play," Brown said. "But I'm not encouraged to see guys struggle." Brown said he could possibly replace Snow with Aaron McKie or Kevin Ollie, but he hopes he doesn't have to. "I don't know if anybody's as good as Eric. He's really our leader," Brown said. Allen Iverson said the rest of the team will have to step up a notch if Snow misses Friday's game. "That's a big-time blow for us. He's our point guard, our floor general," Iverson said. "If Eric doesn't play, I might have to play some point guard. Aaron McKie knows he has to step up and be even bigger for the team."
