Game 7 proved to be good to the Knicks and NBC. AP

NEW YORK (AP) -- The NBA finally drew more TV viewers this postseason, getting its first ratings increase over the weekend with the Knicks-Heat and Lakers-Trail Blazers matchups on NBC.

The overnight ratings were up 12 percent compared to the same weekend last year, boosted mostly by New York's Game 7 victory over Miami on Sunday in the Eastern Conference semifinals.

The 8.7 overnight rating and 19 share was the best showing for any playoff game this season on NBC and a 16 percent increase from last year, when the same weekend featured both conference-finals openers.

Game 1 of the Western Conference finals between Los Angeles and Portland on Saturday produced a 6.2 overnight rating and 15 share, a 5 percent increase from last year. The overnight rating measures nearly two-thirds of the country.

National ratings for the playoffs had dropped 21 percent compared with last year, the same decrease NBC had during the lockout-shortened regular season.

The rating is the percentage of TV households tuned to a program, and each point represents 1 million homes. Share represents the percentage of televisions tuned to the show.
