NBA Draft Diary - Shane Battier

Shane Battier, an All-America forward, led Duke to the national championship last season. He is expected to be taken early in the first round of Wednesday's NBA Draft, which can be seen on TNT at 7 p.m. EDT.

Well, it's a little more than 24 hours before the draft, and I'm actually pretty relaxed. All the workouts have been completed, all the interviews have been dictated, and all the travel has ceased.

I'm in New York right now awaiting my future. I thought I would be a lot more stressed, but I feel I have done everything I wanted to do in the pre-draft process. The final decision is out of my hands. It's up to the general managers and coaches to decide where I'll be spending the next five years of my life.

I'm just playing the waiting game. My family and friends are en route to New York and will make the next 24 hours quicker as we all await to hear my name called by commissioner David Stern. With all the pressure of the workouts now off, I've allowed myself to have some fun. My brothers and sisters have never been to New York, so it will be fun to show them around.

People have asked me if I'll have a big party when I get drafted, but I don't think I will. I'm excited to spend time with my family and talk about the future.

One of the more important issues of the night is the draft-day suit. Your reputation can be boosted or busted depending on how you look when you go up to the podium to shake the commissioner's hand. As much as the draft is about basketball, it has evolved into a mini-fashion show.

I'm not a very loud dresser, so I'm going to go with a more conservative, yet clean, look. My tailor, Herman Masters, did his best to make sure that I look my best, and I'm really excited to put on his work. If you're looking for me to wear a mustard yellow, eight-button suit, then I'm sorry to disappoint you. My suit is a four-button, beige suit. Very classic, very clean.

I'm excited for the next 24 hours. I will be happy to play anywhere and call myself a member of the NBA.
