NEW YORK (AP) -- The NBA playoffs have produced a 4.9 national rating for NBC, an increase of 4 percent over last year's 4.7.

The fifth game of the Western Conference finals between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Sacramento Kings on Tuesday night produced a 9.9 national rating. Games on Friday and Sunday had a 6.7 and 6.8, respectively.

The ratings for the Western Conference games on the weekend were up from last year's 5.8 and 5.3 for games between San Antonio and Los Angeles. There was no comparable Tuesday night game last year because the Lakers swept the Spurs.

The Eastern Conference finals between New Jersey and Boston have not done as well. Game 3 on Saturday had a 4.2 rating, down from the 4.8 for Milwaukee and Philadelphia a year ago.

On Monday, the Nets and Celtics did a 5.4, down from last year's 5.8 for the Bucks and 76ers.

Overnight ratings for Wednesday's prime-time game between Boston and New Jersey were 8.6, up from 8.3 for Philadelphia and Milwaukee last year.

Each national rating point represents a little more than 1 million households. Overnight ratings measure the 53 largest TV markets in the United States, covering about 65 percent of the country.
