Tim Duncan. The Big Fundamental had all of his skills on display in Game 1. He keyed the defense by using his long arms to send back seven shots at the defensive end, and then burned the Nets with an array of turnaround jumpers at the offensive end. All in a day's work for the most low-key MVP in sports.
Nets named Jason. There were positions where the Nets could afford to be outplayed, but point guard and center weren't among them. Jason Collins was abused by a guy 10 days from retirement, while Jason Kidd turned in an unabated brickfest (4-for-17). David Robinson and Tony Parker doubled their output, 30-15.
Parker spins for two. As San Antonio pulled away in the third quarter, Tony Parker drove to the basket and spun blindly right back toward Jason Kidd. It's the kind of ball Kidd always steals ... except this time. Parker spun so fast and tight that he slipped by Kidd and in for a layup to put the Spurs up by double digits.
Lisa Marie sings. Blame the Spurs. Or rather, Spurs assistant P.J. Carlesimo. Back in 2001, it was the comatose studio crew of Carlesimo, Ahmad Rashad and Kevin Johnson that forced NBC to turn to halftime concerts to keep the viewers awake. That network at least had the good taste to show us U2. Who's singing at Game 2, Billy Ray Cyrus?
