Brick city Spurs, Nets set futility record in first half of Game 3Posted: Sunday June 08, 2003 10:14 PMUpdated: Monday June 09, 2003 12:20 AM EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) -- New Jersey and San Antonio combined to score just 63 points by halftime of Game 3 of the NBA Finals on Sunday night, setting a record for lowest-scoring first half in series history. Their combined 27 points in the second quarter was another record, as was the Nets' nine points in that period. The single-team, single-period mark of 10 also came against the Spurs, done by the New York Knicks in 1999. With San Antonio leading 33-30 at the break, the teams broke the first-half record of 66 set by Utah and Chicago in 1998. The Nets and Spurs tied the low-points mark for any half in Finals history, done first by Houston and the Knicks in the second half of a 1994 game. The Nets led 21-15 after one quarter, then the Spurs outscored them 18-9 in the second quarter. Both teams made under 40 percent of their shots. New Jersey had 12 turnovers and San Antonio had 10. |
