Mitchell Watt
Position: PF
Class: Senior
School: Buffalo
Conference: MAC
HT: 6'10"
WT: 225 lbs.
Biography: Following a standout senior season, Watt has a chance to become the first Buffalo player taken in the draft in 39 years and the second to make an NBA roster. He was named Mid-American Conference player of the year and an honorable mention All-American in 2011-12 after averaging career highs of 16.3 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 2.2 blocks. The projected power forward followed that season by setting a Portsmouth Invitational record with 13 blocks over three games. Watt averaged 12.7 points and 9.0 rebounds during that showcase, and had 11 points on 4-of-5 shooting and a game-high three blocks at the NABC College All-Star Game in March. Watt is seeking to become the first Bulls player selected in the draft since Bob Vartanian was taken in the 13th round in 1973 by the Buffalo Braves. Sam Pellom remains the program's only player to appear in an NBA game, playing 196 over four seasons with Atlanta and Milwaukee from 1979-83. Watt's athleticism and shot-blocking ability could make him the next, but he might need some polish to his game. He's already shown plenty of heart while battling back from Guillain-Barre Syndrome, a condition in which the body's immune system attacks the nerves, before his sophomore season. Watt had to relearn how to walk and run while coming back from that disease.
