J'Covan Brown
Position: PG
Class: Junior
School: Texas
Conference: BIG12
HT: 6'1"
WT: 197 lbs.
Biography: Brown has good intentions regarding his decision to declare for the draft after his junior season at Texas, but it's likely he'll miss out on a guaranteed first-round contract. Despite most experts viewing the guard as a late second-round selection - with even a possibility he goes undrafted - Brown made clear he hopes to provide for his young daughter, Jordyn. He'll be the 10th player since 2006 to leave Texas early for the draft. Brown led the Big 12 averaging 20.1 points, scoring a game-high 19 in a loss to Cincinnati in the Longhorns' only NCAA tournament game. Brown scored over 30 points four times, with three performances coming against top-10 teams Missouri, Kansas and Baylor. He started nine games his freshman year and none in his sophomore season but had to shoulder the scoring load due to early departures following 2010-11. Brown, though, shot only 41.7 percent - ending his Texas career shooting 39.8 percent overall - and his poor decisions and shot selection often cost the Longhorns late in games. How he'll handle NBA defenses also remains in question. Brown played shooting guard at Texas, but his size likely will have him make the transition to point guard in the pros. He may have to prove himself in private workouts and summer leagues following the draft to catch on with an NBA team.
