Last October, Hawks power forward Alan Henderson, a 1995 first-rounder out of Indiana, began experiencing severe abdominal pains, which for a month made it difficult for him to eat. Doctors at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., diagnosed the malady as viral pancreatitis, a severe inflammation of the pancreas. Henderson convalesced through the winter and returned to the Hawks in February. He spent the summer bulking back up, and now his teammates are expecting big things of him. "Alan had the best training camp of all of us," says guard Steve Smith of Henderson's effort last fall. "I think he's going to do that again--only this time Alan's not going to get sick." |
