In his first two NBA seasons, 6'8" power forward Michael Smith didn't start a single game. The second-round draft pick out of Providence came off the bench in all 82 Kings games in 1994-95; the next season he had the highest rebounding average (6.0) of any NBA player without a start. Last season, though, he started 52 games, and with forward Brian Grant now playing in Portland, Smith should see both his starts and his stats increase again. He says his biggest goal for the season is to become a greater offensive threat. "I know what is expected from me and what I have to do to make myself better," Smith says. "I'm going to give 110 percent whenever I step on the court."
