Surely there were times last season when Todd Fuller thought to himself, I gave up the chance at a Rhodes scholarship for this? As a senior at North Carolina State, the 6'11" center sported a 20.9 scoring average and a 3.97 grade point average, and turned down a Rhodes nomination to take on the NBA. But the brainy math major struggled to come up with a formula for success at Golden State. Fuller, the Warriors' first-round draft pick in 1996, was the team's opening-day starter last season, but six games later, after averaging 10.0 points and 6.0 rebounds, he was replaced by veteran Felton Spencer. Fuller did show flashes of promise, however, scoring a career-high 18 points in a February game at New Jersey and finishing with four straight double-figure scoring performances. "Todd worked very hard in the off-season," says coach P.J. Carlesimo. "We're confident he will be more of a factor this year." |
