Add Michael Gearon’s name to the list of team executives who have been fined for violating the NBA’s anti-tampering rules. In an interview with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the Hawks’ co-owner said he’d go over the luxury-tax threshold if he could get LeBron.
“If somebody came to us tomorrow and said you can have LeBron for max money and it puts you in the luxury tax, I’d do it in a a heartbeat,” Gearon told the AJC. “But am I going to do that for [Zydrunas] Ilgauskas? Am I going to do it for Jermaine O’Neal? I don’t think so …”
