The Cavaliers are reportedly interested Kelvin Sampson as a potential coaching candidate, Yahoo! SportsAdrian Wojnarowski reports. Cavs GM Danny Ferry simply made calls checking on the Bucks assistant, but some league officials believe Sampson will become a legitimate contender for a head coaching job in the NBA.

Sampson’s a favorite of Spurs coach Gregg Popovich (who’s close with Ferry) since the two coached together on Team USA and in the 2002 World Championships. Sampson was a two-time national coach of the year at the University of Oklahoma and later the coach at Indiana before he was fired in 2008 for NCAA violations. [Yahoo! Sports]
