Apparently, Jay-Z does not have to adhere to NBA tampering rules. On Friday, the hip-hop mogul, who’s also part-owner of the Nets, wined and dined The King in New York, reported the New York Daily News.
James made a surprise appearance at the 40th birthday party for Steve Stoute (the founder of Translations marketing firm, which paired LeBron with a number of major sponsors, like McDonald’s) on Friday night at a seventh-floor roof garden at Rockefeller Center.
At the party, LeBron and Jay-Z, along with the rapper’s wife Beyoncé and R&B songstress Mary J. Blige chowed down on a meal catered by Chef April Bloomfield and the staff of the Spotted Pig, which counts Jay-Z as an investor. (Dishes included beef and Stilton pie and Arctic char; and at 2 a.m., breakfast with something called “steak and egg biscuits” was served.) Beyoncé’s sister Solange Knowles, who played deejay for the evening.
According to another Daily News source, Jay-Z had plans to hang with LeBron on Thursday as well. Jay-Z had planned to make a midnight appearance with James at the NBA draft party at his 40/40 Club, but after spending the day working on his greatest hits CD, the rapper was “tired and hungry” and left James to his own devices, and the NBA star landed at Avenue with Blige. And we all know what went down there.
Jay-Z’s night out with James won’t sit well with the New York Knicks. Reports say the Knicks scrapped elaborate dinner plans for the King when they learned that James wouldn’t travel city to city to meet with teams. [New York Daily News]
