Bulls re-sign assistant coach Cartwright Posted: Friday August 28, 1998 12:22 PM
CHICAGO (AP) -- The Chicago Bulls have re-signed Bill Cartwright as an assistant coach. The 1998-99 season will be Cartwright's third on the Bulls' bench. "I am looking forward to working with Tim Floyd," Cartwright said in a statement released Thursday by the team. "We've had great discussions about the game in general. There is a tremendous amount of knowledge we can share with one another." Floyd was recently appointed director of basketball operations for the Bulls and is expected to become coach after the NBA lockout. Coach Phil Jackson, who led the Bulls to six NBA titles, has said he is not returning. Floyd has said he wants to keep most of the Bulls staff intact. Along with Cartwright, he has persuaded assistant coach Frank Hamblen to return this season. Assistant coach Tex Winter, architect of the Bulls' famed triangle offense, remains unsigned. Cartwright, 39, played for the Bulls for six seasons, including the 1991-93 span in which the Bulls won three consecutive championships. In his 16-year NBA career, Cartwright averaged 13.2 points and 6.3 rebounds.
