Report: Rodman may play for Orlando

High priced hair: Because of salary cap restraints, the Magic can only offer Rodman the league minimum for veterans AP

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) -- Dennis Rodman may soon be reunited with coach Chuck Daly on the Orlando Magic.

The Orlando Sentinel, citing NBA sources it did not identify, reported Friday that Dwight Manley, who resigned as Rodman's agent Thursday, informed the Miami Heat earlier this week of Rodman's intention to join the Magic.

Daly, who coached Rodman for six years in Detroit, has already expressed interest in Rodman, who is known as much for his off-the-court antics, tattoos, body piercings and multicolored hair styles as he is for his rebounding prowess.

Miami coach Pat Riley had said earlier this week that he was interested in signing Rodman if he agreed to follow team rules.

"If he plays anywhere, I would think it would be in Orlando with Chuck," Riley said. "They've had a good relationship for a long time."

Rodman and Daly teamed in Detroit to win NBA titles in 1989 and 1990. Rodman, 37, has also won NBA titles during the past three seasons as a member of the Chicago Bulls before becoming a free agent this season.

"I talked to Dennis about a week or two ago, but in general terms," Daly said Thursday. "We have talked about it. I'm definitely interested."

Team sources indicate that as recently as Tuesday, there was a meeting between president Bob Vander Weide, general manager John Gabriel and Daly to discuss whether to pursue Rodman, the newspaper said.

Because the Magic are over the NBA's team salary cap of $30 million, they can only offer Rodman the league's $1 million minimum salary for veterans. Rodman made in excess of $10 million last season with the Bulls.

"I don't know where we are with money and such," Daly said. "But we'll see where it goes. We've had extensive talks about it. He had indicated his interest in us. How much, I don't know.'

The Magic open the season next Friday against the New York Knicks in Orlando Arena.
