Chris Morris signs with Suns Posted: Wednesday February 03, 1999 07:03 PM
PHOENIX (AP) -- Forward Chris Morris, a role player in Utah's drive to the NBA Finals the last two seasons, signed a one-year contract with the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday. The 6-foot-8 Morris, entering his 11th NBA season, averaged 8.8 points, 4.8 rebounds and 19.3 minutes in the Jazz's four-game sweep of the Los Angeles Lakers in last year's Western Conference finals. "He's got some athleticism and experience. He's a kind of versatile guy. He's a little different than some of the guys we have now," said Suns head coach Danny Ainge. He played in 54 games for Utah last season, averaging 4.3 points and 2.1 rebounds. Morris, 33, played three seasons with the Jazz after spending his first seven with the New Jersey Nets. In 1991-92, he averaged 18.8 points per game in helping the Nets to the playoffs. Morris provides more frontcourt experience and 3-point shooting for the Suns. He has played in 68 playoff games.
