Rodman late for practice Posted: Sunday February 28, 1999 01:07 AM
LOS ANGELES (AP) -- It didn't take long for Dennis Rodman to stir up a little controversy with his new team, but a Los Angeles Lakers spokesman said it wasn't the eccentric forward's fault. Rodman, impressive in his first game for the Lakers on Friday night in a 99-83 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers, ran into some traffic Saturday, and was late for practice at Los Angeles Southwest College. "Supposedly he was about 10 minutes late, " Lakers spokesman John Black said Saturday night. "It was no big deal. He got caught in traffic. It was the same thing for me. Traffic was stopped on the 405 [freeway]." When asked if Rodman would be fined Black replied, "We don't discuss fines. We never have. We handle that internally." Rodman, the NBA's leading rebounder each of the last seven seasons, had 11 rebounds and six assists in 26 minutes Friday night. He will play his second game with the Lakers against the Houston Rockets on Sunday. Black said back-up center Elden Campbell was sent home from practice with the flu and was questionable for the nationally-televised game against the Rockets.
