So long, Shandon Jazz owner says Anderson won't be backPosted: Tuesday September 21, 1999 11:17 PM
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Utah Jazz owner Larry Miller said Tuesday the team will not re-sign free agent guard Shandon Anderson. Miller told KUTV he would have liked Anderson to return to the Jazz for the upcoming season, but he will not accept what the team can offer. The Jazz have reportedly offered Anderson as much as $3 million. Miller said Tuesday that Anderson wants more than Utah would be allowed to pay, and more than any other team is willing to pay. Miller said Anderson and his agent were the ones to end the negotiations. The 25-year-old Anderson averaged 8.5 points and 2.6 rebounds in 50 games last season, then averaged 9.5 points and 3.7 rebounds in the playoffs as the Jazz were beaten by Portland in the Western Conference semifinals. Anderson was a second-round draft pick out of Georgia by Utah in 1996. The Jazz will focus on developing first-round draft pick Quincy Lewis and give Jeff Hornaceck more playing time to fill the void, Miller said. Also pending are contract talks with Hornaceck and John Stockton, but both guards usually negotiate directly with Miller and both are expected back. Utah's training camp opens Oct. 4.
