Raptors sign Muggsy Bogues Posted: Thursday September 23, 1999 08:39 PM
TORONTO (AP) -- Muggsy Bogues said his decision to sign with the Toronto Raptors was not a difficult one. Bogues signed a one-year contract Thursday with the Raptors, reportedly worth $1 million, the minimum for an NBA player with 10 or more seasons of experience. "It's all about winning, attitude and preparing yourself," the 5-foot-3 Bogues said. "Guys like [Charles] Oakley, Kevin Willis, Antonio Davis, Dell Curry, Dee Brown, Vince Carter and Tracy McGrady, they're all quality people. I like what the Raptors are doing and that was a very easy decision." Bogues, a 12-year NBA veteran, averaged 5.1 points and 3.7 assists per game in 36 regular-season games last year with the Golden State Warriors. "Muggsy has always been a very exciting player in this league and our fans will really enjoy watching him," said Raptors general manager Glen Grunwald. "He brings veteran experience to the team at the point-guard position and we feel that he and Alvin Williams will make a great tandem, combining youth and experience and both bringing great athleticism." Bogues was a first-round selection (12th overall) by the Washington Bullets in 1987. In his NBA career, Bogues has averaged 8 points and 8 assists in 806 games and is the league's career leader in assist-to-turnover ratio (4.69).
