PHOENIX (Ticker) -- Phoenix Suns forward Tom Gugliotta has not been cleared to play after suffering a seizure on the team bus nine days ago.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution had reported that the 6-10 Gugliotta might see action Sunday night at home against Golden State, but a team spokesperson told SportsTicker that Gugliotta has not been cleared to play.
The reasons behind Gugliotta's seizure remain a mystery, but team physician Dr. Richard Emerson did not seem concerned.
"Most people who suffer seizures only experience them once," he told the paper. "I feel very confident that this is a single, isolated incident."
Gugliotta suffered the seizure while on a cellular phone with his wife after a 110-102 victory at Portland on December 17. He has missed the last four games.
While hospitalized, Gugliotta underwent a CAT scan and an EKG, both of which showed nothing out of the ordinary.
Gugliotta and the Suns were fortunate the seizure occurred on the team bus, which was headed to the airport. Once on the return flight to Phoenix, he may not have been able to receive proper medical attention.
Gugliotta, who turned 30 a week ago, is in his second season with the Suns, his fourth NBA team. He is averaging 14.1 points and 8.1 rebounds in 22 games this season.
A 1997 All-Star with the Minnesota Timberwolves, Gugliotta signed as a free agent with Phoenix prior to last season.
