Eight games under .500 in his 38 game stint, Darrell Walker apparently will not be back as head coach of the Wizards. AP

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Darrell Walker will not be back next season as head coach of the Washington Wizards, ESPN reported Friday.

The report quoted sources as saying Walker, who was hired by Michael Jordan at midseason to replace Gar Heard, will likely be offered a job within the Wizards' organization. Walker was 15-23 as interim coach this season, and the team finished 29-53.

On Thursday, Jordan, a part owner and the team's president of basketball operations, met with Wizards players to discuss the future. But Jordan did not say that Walker would be replaced.

"Looking forward to some changes next year," said forward Don Reid, carrying his belongings in a bag over his shoulder as he headed for the elevator. "Michael said there's going to be a whole new attitude starting next season, and they're going to start from scratch."

Jordan, who joined the team on Jan. 19, had said he wants to hire a coach within a month and overhaul the front office of an operation that's been run on a shoestring budget.

Jordan fired Heard shortly after joining the team, saying he had lost the players' respect.
