MIAMI (AP) -- The Miami Heat, looking for help off the bench, acquired forward Cedric Ceballos from the Detroit Pistons on Sunday night for a conditional second-round draft choice.

The trade was completed after the Utah jazz defeated the Pistons 94-79 Sunday night. Ceballos had four points off the bench.

Ceballos is an 11-year veteran with career averages of 14.6 points and 5.5 rebounds. He has played for the Phoenix Suns, Los Angeles Lakers, Dallas Mavericks, and the Pistons.

Ceballos' best season was with the Lakers in 1995, when he was named to the All-Star Game.

This season, the 6-7, 220-pound small forward averaged 5.8 points in limited playing time with the Pistons. He scored a season-high 23 points on Nov. 15 against Indiana, and the offense-starved Heat are hoping he can provide scoring off the bench.

The Heat have been hit by injuries this season, especially at small forward. To make room for Ceballos, the Heat waived forward Jamal Robinson, who made the team as a free agent but appeared in only six games this season.

"With the addition of Joe Smith, it became very apparent we needed to make a roster management move," said Pistons president Joe Dumars. "By making this deal, not only does this give us even more flexibility with the salary cap, it also allows us to receive a trade exception."
