The latest on Patrick Ewing is that he will finish his career in either Orlando or Miami next season. The Orlando Sentinel reported that Ewing's agent, David Falk, has told friends that he expects the 38-year-old center to sign with one of the Florida teams.
|
Its hope of signing a top-flight center fading, Orlando is considering cheaper short-term solutions, such as Ewing. As for Miami, Ewing must love the idea of spending his swan-song season with former Knicks head coach Pat Riley and good friend Alonzo Mourning.

According to the New York Post, after meeting with his family in Detroit on Tuesday, Chris Webber's first two calls were to Pistons president Joe Dumars and Pacers head coach Isiah Thomas.
|
"[Webber] called those two guys first because of the respect he has for them," the Post's source said. "There's still a chance he might leave [Sacramento]. He's going to make some visits."

The San Antonio Express-News says the Spurs have contacted free agents Webber, Michael Finley and Doug Christie.

San Antonio has money to spend. The $16 million the Spurs can clear in cap room makes them one of the biggest players on the market.

The Toronto Sun reported that the Raptors nearly traded forward Charles Oakley for Washington's Jahidi White as part of a three-team draft-day deal.
|
In addition to the Wizards, the New Jersey Nets and Portland Trail Blazers are also believed to have varying degrees of interest in Oakley, who wants to be traded. |

The Chicago Sun-Times says the Bulls are trying a new offense during their summer-league training camp to showcase draft picks Tyson Chandler and Eddy Curry. "It's a continuity offense with a cutting game and dives a lot of different guys into the post and puts guys in different positions," says assistant coach Phil Johnson.
|
Chicago head coach Tim Floyd probably wouldn't miss having to spend all of training camp and much of the season teaching the complicated triangle, as he has the past three seasons to new sets of players. And as the Bulls have trailed the league in scoring the past three seasons, it's about time for something new.

The maverick owner's strategy for re-signing his team's free agents? "I'd rather be the last one to talk to them," Cuban said, "than the first one."
