PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Allen Iverson, the NBA's MVP, and Aaron McKie, the league's Sixth Man of the Year, both will have surgery Tuesday and could miss the start of training camp.

Iverson will have an arthroscopic procedure on his right elbow, and McKie will have a similar procedure on his right shoulder.

A spokeswoman for the Philadelphia 76ers said the severity of both injuries won't be known until Tuesday.

Iverson's inflamed elbow was among the several injuries that bothered him last season when he led the Sixers to the NBA Finals.

News of his surgery was first reported on the Web site of Iverson's company, CrossOver Promotions. A message, listed as a "News Flash" said: "After a visit to a team specialist, it has been determined that Allen will undergo surgery on his inflamed elbow to remove bone fragments prior to the 2001-02 season. It is possible that he may begin the season on the injury list. Stay tuned. ..."

Neither Iverson nor McKie were available for comment. Sixers general manager Billy King will discuss the injuries at a news conference Tuesday.

Dr. James Andrews of Birmingham, Ala., will perform both operations. He'll be assisted by team physician Jack McPhilemy.

Philadelphia, which lost in five games to the Los Angeles Lakers after advancing to the NBA Finals for the first time in 18 years, begins training camp at Penn State on Oct. 2. The Sixers' first preseason game is against Dallas on Oct. 9.

Iverson led the league in scoring for the second time in three years with an average of 31.1 points; was first in steals (2.51); and tied for first in minutes (42.0).

McKie averaged career highs in points (11.6), rebounds (4.1), assists (five), steals (1.39) and minutes (31.5). He started 33 of the 76 games in which he played during the regular season mainly because of injuries to point guard Eric Snow.

McKie signed a six-year contract worth a guaranteed $35.5 million in July. Iverson married his longtime girlfriend, Tawanna Turner, in August.
