OAKLAND, California (Ticker) -- On a team that boasts "Twin Towers" David Robinson and Tim Duncan, reserve forward Malik Rose came up big for the San Antonio Spurs. Rose scored a career-high 26 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in just 23 minutes to lead the Spurs to a 117-105 victory over the Golden State Warriors. The 6-7 Rose did most of his damage in the second half, scoring 20 points on 7-of-7 shooting to help the Spurs pull away. He made 10-of-12 shots overall. "I worked on things over the summer and it's time to show it when it's game time," Rose said. "It was good to do things on the offensive end." "Malik has done a great job for us, he's worked real hard and it's showed," Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said. "His offense is improved and he let's the game come to him. He doesn't force anything." The Spurs took a 93-73 cushion into the fourth quarter and increased the lead to 22 with 9:41 left. But Antawn Jamison led a furious fourth-quarter comeback with 14 points and Golden State closed to 108-101 with 1:22 left before San Antonio put away the game in the final minute. Jamison finished with 32 points for the Warriors, who have lost nine in a row to the Spurs. "He played with a little more aggressiveness in terms of looking for the ball and his decision-making," Warriors coach Dave Cowens said. "He wasn't going three-quarters speed or eight-tenths speed, he was going all the way and really was sharp tonight. He was making shots from the outside and I'm sure that made him more confident too." After both teams shot poorly in the first quarter, San Antonio connected on 13-of-20 attempts in the second to take a 59-46 lead into halftime. The Spurs ended the period with a 9-1 spurt, capped by short jumper by Sean Elliott, who scored seven points in the session. The Spurs were even better in the third quarter, making a remarkable 82 percent (14-of-17) of their attempts with Rose chipping in 11 points. San Antonio took its largest lead, 91-70, on a 3-pointer by Steve Kerr in the final minute and took a 20-point cushion into the fourth. "Malik had an all-star game -- I've never seen him shoot like that," Cowens said. "He was making shots in improbable places." With San Antonio resting its starters, the Warriors began to creep back into the contest midway through the period. Jamison and Chris Mills combined to score nine straight points that cut the deficit to 105-96 with 4:33 to go, forcing Spurs coach Gregg Popovich to reinserted most of his starters. Golden State crawled with seven on a free throw by Erick Dampier but the Spurs (3-0) made nine free throws down the stretch to remain undefeated. "We're not going to get down on ourselves and we're not going to give up," Jamison said. "This team did a tremendous job of showing some character. We've got to execute and and play together and I think we're taking steps in that direction." Elliott scored 18 points and Duncan had 16 and 13 rebounds for San Antonio, which converted half their shots (41-of-82) from the field and held a 53-46 edge on the boards. Larry Hughes and Vonteego Cummings collected 13 points each for the Warriors (1-2), who shot 41 percent (43-of-105) and made only 12-of-22 free throws.
